Home – About Us
After 40 years of kayaking, sometimes in sleek crafts, sometimes in leaky bathtubs, I finally decided to build my Dream Life, one paddle at a time. Welcome to ASK Adventure Seekers Kayaks.
Why Kayaks? And Why Here?
I have paddled and swam with dolphins, seals, turtles, and sharks. Most of these trips were solo, by choice. Sometimes, just to escape the crowds and find the “zone,” to find myself in being alone.
Kayak diving? That’s my jam. I would go where no one else had been, boldly paddling and exploring. Each trip was a new story, sometimes epic, sometimes “what was I thinking?” but always, always memorable. And yet, I kept asking: Why am I the only one out here? Why isn’t everyone doing this?
I tried to launch this dream in Western Australia, but the ocean there is basically an extreme sport: wind, sharks, currents, and not a single lifeguard in sight. Sulawesi? Same story, different sharks. Then I landed on the Gili Islands. Suddenly, everything lined up: perfect waters, the right vibe, the right crowd.
And here, the magic is not just in the sea, it is in the community. We work closely with local guides and put sustainability at the heart of everything we do. Every paddle supports marine conservation, local jobs, and a cleaner, greener Gili.
So, I went all in. Ordered a fleet of shiny new kayaks, registered the company, and dove headfirst into Gili life. I even marooned myself on a “deserted” island (with WiFi, let’s not get crazy) and started plugging my ideas into AI. Out came business plans, wild concepts, and, eventually, a real, working dream.
Why do all this? For my kids, mostly. To show them you can chase a dream for decades and, one day, actually catch it. Everyone has their own music, their own adventure. Mine is kayaking, exploring, teaching, and sharing the thrill of real adventure with anyone willing to put their bum in a boat.
After 40 years of kayaking and loving it, I’m sharing my passion with you, a kayak tour business in Indonesia. Why do you ASK?
I used every type of kayak, some good, some great, and some leaky buckets!! I swam with dolphins, seals, turtles, sharks, all sort of creatures people pay a fortune to see, and all these adventures for free!!
I was often alone, by choice, to get away from the drones, to get in the zone. Kayak diving is my sport, go to places no one had been before, a Sea Star Trek of my own!
Paddling every time on a new adventure, sometimes good, sometimes scary and not always safe for sure but memorable. And wondering, why am I alone? Why aren’t they all doing it?
So I tried to start it in different places, but it was too dangerous in Australia, too much wind, sharks, current and no one around to save my arse. I went to Sulawesi, and it was the same story and then I came to the Gilis.
And there are many things falling into place, many criteria met and still, no one doing it yet??
I looked at the crowded streets, the activities and the reefs, the fit and I took the plunge, ordered my brand new fleet, registered the company, gathered all the information’s on GT.
Took myself to a deserted island with wifi and entered what I saw in AI. It spewed back ideas, concepts, and feedback, and little by little, we refined a business, a dream, that would turn my passion into a profitable dream.
What was it for you said, well, for my kids and for you, to invite you to follow your passion, to Dream and persevere. And one day, you ask yourself, what am I doing here, what’s my purpose, what’s my music, what’s my thing?
Me, it’s kayaking, going places, and always adventuring. So I designed a lot of tours to share that passion that was fueling me, to show the world what you could do with a kayak. And refined it to 4 tours, with probably 12 in the background.
One to teach people how to do it safely, and not lose your camera, your phone, or your buddy. A second one was to give people the freedom to be the explorer we all want to be, to snorkel with a kayak in tow, and never have to worry about water, snacks, or spare battery, to be able to sea, and have my own island just following me.
The third one is for the romantic in me, the one that wanted to escape the crowds, and just be at sea, without noise, at peace, without me. There’s a fourth, a fifth and many more to come, there’s challenges and rough seas, but looking forward to see your face when you put your bum in that sit, and suddenly be free, master of your own ship, with no one around, no boundaries, see you out there.
So you can paddle safely and keep your phone, camera dry, and maybe your dignity semi intact.
kayak-snorkeling with snacks, spare batteries, water, and your own “mini island” following you.
just you, the sea, and the sunset. No crowds, no noise, just peace.
because sometimes, adventure means getting a little wet.
There’s more to come, on that you can bet!!
But for us at ASK the best part? Seeing your face when you push off, realize you’re free, and suddenly become the captain of your own little ship. No boundaries, no worries, just pure adventure.
Book your tour, join our eco-friendly adventures, and become part of the Gili community that’s making a difference, one kayak at a time. See you out there (and don’t forget your sense of humor and reef friendly sunscreen)
